Accomplishments

To date, these common ambitions and commitment to school-age children have provided domain partners with the right tools for success. Recent accomplishments include:

• Hosted presentations on the following topics: dehydration and obesity; stress, youth and obesity; stress reduction and mindful awareness; Local Control Accountability Plans and the connection to wellness, the National School Wellness Policy, and supporting wellness in preschool.
• Continued recognizing schools throughout San Diego County that have participated in the Healthy School Fundraising Program. There are currently 18 examples from 11 districts.
• Updated the school wellness policy clearinghouse with current wellness policies from 41 San Diego County school districts including example policy language in 24 categories.
• Facilitated the San Diego County Farm to School Taskforce to increase consumption of local, healthful, seasonal foods, and improve food literacy in San Diego County school districts. Hosted presentations on the following topics: district farming, San Ysidro’s use of local fish through a relationship with Catalina Offshore, and farm to fork and the California Farmer’s Marketplace.
• Developed model preschool language to include in school district wellness policies and began advocating for the language inclusion for school districts with onsite preschools during wellness policy revisions (in partnership with the Early Childhood domain).
