Activities
The COI Early Childhood Workgroup is comprised of agencies, organizations, and individuals who work with the early childhood domain and support healthy eating and active living for children ages 0-5. Partners participating in the COI Early Childhood Workgroup conduct the following activities:
- Provide a monthly forum for the early childhood community to network, share resources, coordinate activities, and partner with others
- Develop and provide resources, support, training and technical assistance to early childhood
educators, care providers, and organizations working with children ages 0-5 - Identify and share best practice policy language for childcare
- Advocate for and promote healthy policies and environments for families and children ages 0-5
- Support projects and strategies in other domains and COI workgroups related to healthy eating
and active living for children ages 0-5
Key Focus Areas for the Next Two Years
The Early Childhood Domain Workgroup identified five focus areas for the next two years:
- Identifying early childhood indicators and working with partners to collect and gather data
- Supporting early childhood organizations and programs in enhancing health and wellness through technical assistance and policy, systems and environmental change
- Supporting advocacy efforts that benefit children ages 0-5
- Continue providing a forum for partner education and collaboration
- Exploring and potentially developing a COI education portal for early childhood stakeholders
