Accomplishments

Through collaboration, the Government Domain has succeeded in providing domain partners with the right tools for success. Recent accomplishments include:

• Developed a profile of each of the 19 jurisdictions in San Diego County to provide community residents with a comprehensive tool for advocating for policy-level changes in their communities. The profiles highlight healthy eating and active living policies that have been adopted in each jurisdiction and opportunities for improvement.
• Hosted a Vision Zero symposium, which was attended by nearly 70 individuals. The event included a Vision Zero 101 panel detailing the initiative and successful projects and a second panel featuring public health and business representatives who gave an overview of their work to support safe streets.
• Identified locations that would benefit from Safe Routes to School efforts by conducting an analysis of where there was overlap between the schools with the highest obesity rates and the cities with the highest pedestrian and bicycle crashes and fatalities.
  • Areas with overlap included Chula Vista, Escondido, Oceanside, and National City.
• Developed toolkits focusing on Vision Zero and reducing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages to support the COI’s policy agenda.
• Worked with Alta Planning + Design to create maps showing the intersections with the highest collision and fatality rates near schools.
